Zagreb Vacation Packages

Lying between the southern slopes of the Medvednica Mountain and the Sava River in central Croatia, Zagreb is an exciting capital city with a thousand-year-old history and a wealth of museums, restaurants and nightlife. It has a rich cultural heritage with Central European roots and enriched by Mediterranean and Balkan traditions. Zagreb is also the gateway to countryside manors, storied castles, archaeological sites, thermal spas and Plitvice Lakes National Park.

Explore Zagreb

Ban Josip Jelacic Square is the city’s main square that divides Zagreb’s Upper and Lower Town districts. Gornji grad is the Upper Town area and home to the colorful, open-air Dolac Market and the charming, medieval Gradec and Kaptol neighborhoods that host wonderful cafes, shops and bars.

Most of the city’s museums are in Donji grad, also known as Lower Town. Sample local cuisine at renowned restaurants, admire Neo-gothic architecture and stroll the charming streets to get to know the friendly locals. With approximately 20 theaters, 30 museums, 13 art galleries and more, this Croatian metropolis is easily explored by foot or bicycle.

Dotted around the capital are pockets of natural beauty, including Plitvice Lakes National Park. Experience the stunning beauty of the park’s lakes and waterfalls, and just outside the park you can explore Rastoke, a picturesque, 300-year-old watermill village.

Walk the romantic cobbled streets of Zagreb’s Upper Town where cafe terraces are squeezed between pastel-colored neoclassical houses. Stop by St. Mark’s Square to admire Ban’s Court Palace and St. Mark’s Church. For stories of love lost and found, visit the Museum of Broken Relationships to see exhibits collected from across the globe. For a 360º view of Zagreb, ride up to the 16th floor of the skyscraper at Ban Josip Jelacic Square.

Nearby, the Medvednica Nature Park is ideal for mountain biking and skiing. For phenomenal hiking, less than two hours from Zagreb is Risnjak National Park, a gorgeous untouched mountainous region.

In Zagreb, Ilica Street is the main shopping area that offers many stores with international designer and local brand fashions and shoes. The largest shopping center in the city, Arena Center, has a casino, cinema, several dining options and 200+ brand name stores. The city also boasts numerous open-air and covered markets, including Dolac Market’s colorful stalls filled with displays of flowers, food and reasonably priced souvenirs. Croatian wines, rakija (fruit brandy), olive oil and truffle products make perfect gifts to take home.

The restaurant scene in Zagreb focuses on hearty grilled and roasted meat dishes, with Mediterranean, Dalmatia and central-European variations. Local foods you should try include strukli (dough filled with cottage cheese and sour cream); cuspajz (meat and vegetable stew); and knedli (sweet potato dumplings). Drinking coffee in Zagreb is a ritual and social event and the city's thriving coffee scene will have you soaking up the local atmosphere in no time.

For a city with less than a million people, Zagreb has a myriad of nightlife — from classy nightclubs along Lake Jaron’s shore and small jazz and classical bars to alternative rock hangouts and live DJ venues.
